Meet our Featured Sales Rep, Armando Torres

What is your title? My current title is Lead Sales Representative. My primary focus is in the state of Florida but also reaches outside of Florida with some of our local and national agencies that I have had the pleasure of working with during the past 6 open enrollment seasons.
How long have you worked for Centene? I’ve been with the company for 16 years now. It’s a combination of Celtic Insurance Company and Centene. Fun fact: I started my career with Celtic/Centene while I was a senior in college finishing up my undergrad degree, so this is my first job right out of college.
Hobbies and activities? I love watching NBA and NCAA basketball. This time of year is pretty exciting to watch the NCAA tournament while sitting at home in my living room because it’s too cold to go outside in Chicago. I have a 3-year-old daughter named Ariana who loves to be outdoors so in the summertime we love to go to water parks, carnivals and some of the local festivals in Chicago.
What makes a successful Ambetter agent? A successful Ambetter agent is someone who is self-sufficient and utilizes all available resources in order to grow their book of business. That can be a broker who tracks members in the broker portal who have not made their monthly payment. That’s also a broker who puts up an Ambetter poster in their office or window cling in their storefront window to help attract new customers. Also knowing the Ambetter state footprint and going where the opportunity is at in order to grow their book of business.
What do you enjoy most about the ACA, your job, Centene, etc.? One of the things that I enjoy the most about my job is meeting brokers in person and discussing their open enrollment season. It’s a great opportunity for me to get a better understanding of who this agency or broker is and what I can do to help make them more successful. I also enjoy getting to know brokers more on a personal level and that sometimes includes talking about their families, sharing life experiences and talking about what they like to do for fun outside of the office and while they’re not focused on work.

The agency has strong ties in the community and that has helped them spread the message of the importance of getting enrolled in health coverage. The entire agency has always made me feel welcome when I come to Miami for a visit, like I’m a part of their team.
