Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ+) Resources

June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ+) History Month. Individuals who identify as LGBTQ+ are often met with discrimination and oppression when they decide to open up about their gender identity and seek help. They could also experience racism, sexism, cissexism, heterosexism, ageism, ableism and more. Many individuals who identify as LGBTQ+ are healthy, well-adjusted, and deserve to be accepted in their environment, free from judgment and stigmas.
Ambetter from Superior HealthPlan is committed to providing our LGBTQ+ members and their families with the resources and services they need for the best possible care. Some resources available include:
- Texas Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) – A statewide program that unites school-based GSA student clubs with peer support, leadership development and training. Resources are available in the Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Houston and San Antonio areas.
- The Trevor Project - A judgment-free resource for LGBTQ youth to talk to trained specialists 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through phone, chat or text.
- CyberTipLine (1-800-THE-LOST) - Helps teens with specific problems or concerns. Parent approval not needed for reporting.
- Crisis Text Line (Text “START” to 741741) – Provides support and information about any type of crisis is available 24/7. This service is at no cost to you.
- Centers for Disease Control Prevention Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Health (1-800-232-4636) – Lists data, statistics, services and resources for individuals who identify as LGBTQ+
- National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-8255) - Provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones.
- National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233) – Contains information on how to identify abuse, get help, local resources and provides 24/7, free and confidential support.
